Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 286 people, 125 households, and 75 families residing in the city. The population density was 378.5 people per square mile (145.3/km²). There were 131 housing units at an average density of 173.4 per square mile (66.6/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 100.00% White.

There were 125 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.8% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 40.0% were non-families. 35.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.29 and the average family size was 2.93.

In the city the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 10.1% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 16.1% from 45 to 64, and 23.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 100.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 108.7 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $26,786, and the median income for a family was $39,464. Males had a median income of $24,167 versus $22,045 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,378. About 10.4% of families and 13.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.9% of those under the age of eighteen and 9.4% of those sixty five or over.
